Historic gem meets modern marvel, Randwick
The client’s brief to architect: “We love our home but need more room for our family. Can you make it bigger?”
About the Original Home
This pretty Victorian terrace is situated on a very compact site – only 6m x 8m (50m2) with rear lane access. In the 1970s, the house had an extension added but it was ugly and “leaked like a sieve”. Something needed to be done to realise the home’s potential and transform it into a comfortable, stylish family home.
The Challenge
The tight space and close proximity to neighbours were the main challenges of this renovation. At the lane end of the property, the architect had designed a garage with second story living space so a highly systematic approach was required to facilitate a smooth construction process.
